Calvin Klein Jeans Banned Advertisement – It Promotes Violence And Rape

Calvin Klein Inc., founded in 1968, is a fashion brand located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It is currently owned by Phillips-Van Heusen. The advertising campaigns of this firm are frequently controversial.

The latest advertisement for Calvin Klein jeans was banned in Australia when the Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB) ruled that it was evocative of rape and violence. In this advertisement, the gap-toothed face of the brand, Lara Stone, is lying on the lap of a male model, who is holding her hair and is half nude. Another shirtless male model is hovering above her with his hand underneath her. They seem to be in a public park in an urban space. The image was mortifying to women, it depicts that she is a plaything of these men.

Although the ad campaign was to promote the jean, but where are the jeans in it, you can barely see them. Lara Stone in the photo looks like she is been drugged to participate in a gang band. It seems more like an advertisement for porno not for jeans.

This image caused the outcry from activists, who said that this ad was using the image of gang rape to sell clothing.  According to the Bureau spokesman, even as the act portrayed could be consensual, but the most likely impression and the overall impact of this ad is that the scene is suggestive of rape and violence.
